Meal Periods

  • Non-exempt employees whose total workday is at least 5 hours will be provided with a meal period of at least 30 minutes (unless the employee and their supervisor agree to waive the meal period).
  • Unpaid

Rest Preiods

  • A full-time employee will be granted two 15-minute rest periods, one to be taken in the first half of the workday and one in the second half of the workday (unless operational considerations require the employee to continue working during these periods).
  • A part-time employee will be granted one 15-minute rest period for each work period (unless operational considerations require the employee to continue working during these periods).
  • Paid

Overtime

  • Must be approved in advance by the supervisor.
  • When the hours worked by an employee exceed 40 hours of actual work in a workweek, the employee can either accrue compensatory time off or receive overtime payment.

Time Reporting System (TRS) https://timesheet.uci.edu/

  • Before submitting and/or approving timesheets, please include comments. For example,
    • Pre-approved overtime
    • Sick time (if an employee is absent for more than 3 consecutive days)
    • Bereavement
    • Lunch break was waived
  • Ensure that employees submit their timesheets, and supervisors approve them on time. If not, employees will not receive their paycheck on time (the paycheck will be issued in the next cycle).
